What Makes a Marriage Great

Here at Wives’ Tribe, we believe that marriage makes us better people. So, here’s Mardrease’s experience with what makes a marriage great.

What makes a marriage great?

My husband served almost 10 years in prison. When he got out, he had a room in the basement when we met.

He felt he couldn’t do certain things because of his record and I felt I couldn’t do things because of my bad credit.

I lived a life of absolute STRUGGLE by choice.

I went homeless chasing a dream, ruined my credit before 19. Became a mother at 19. Had my cars repossessed. Lost everything to my name.

We both had EVERY single obstacle and every single reason NOT to work towards a better life.

He rubbed off on me and I rubbed off on him AND BOTH of our lives changed. Iron really sharpened iron.

I told him the first week we met, “babe, it says that on paper but God doesn’t see you as what’s on that paper!”

He got on me about handling my money better. He seen I was able to make a lot of money but I kept spending it to zero. Every time!

I’d be $10k up then $10k down! $20k up then $20k down. He got on me about it and now I’m a PURE budgeting queen

We could’ve used our limitations to stay right where we were.

But when you meet the person, YOUR person. The person who you won’t always see eye to eye with, the person who works your nerves! You know that LAST NERVE?? Yeah they will WORK THAT ONE.

That person, you’ll come together and STILL become better. That’s how you know that’s the person you should be doing life with.

I still can’t believe we closed on our house a few days ago. I’m sitting here thanking God for knowing us BEFORE we were formed in our mothers womb.

I thank you for the Glory over our lives to stand up and fight even when we had every reason to fold.

You are the greatest I AM.
